Join us in seminar to illuminate the historical and cultural significance of Miraflores and to explore motivations and challenges for future restoration as a public, educational, and garden space. Followed by a Q&A session, FREE and open to all participants, Saturday, May 13, 2023, 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, in the Seddon Recital Hall at the University of the Incarnate Word. Led by Anne Elise Urrutia, author of Miraflores, in conversation with Dr. Logan Wagner, co-author of “Ancient Origins of the Mexican Plaza” and Claudia Guerra, cultural historian for the City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation. Jardín de Afuera, the Mexican creativity of Miraflores

Please join us on Saturday February 11, 2023 at 1 pm, when Anne Elise Urrutia, author of Miraflores, will speak at Period Modern, 4347 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, Texas. Her talk, entitled “Jardín de Afuera,” will focus on the exclusively Mexican creative minds and hands that made Miraflores, the beautiful mid-century garden of her great-grandfather, Dr. Aureliano Urrutia. Ms. Urrutia will be available afterward for book-signing. Books are available for purchase from her website at www.quintaurrutia.com, and a limited supply will also be available at the event. A presentation by Anne Elise Urrutia, author of “Miraflores,” to the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, on the multi-faceted garden of Dr. Aureliano Urrutia. Urrutia was a prominent physician from Mexico City, who built Miraflores garden after immigrating to San Antonio from Mexico in 1914. Free and open to the public. Hosted by Dr. Glenn Martinez, Dean of COLFA, and Dr. Wendy Barker, Poet-in Residence and Pearl LeWinn Endowed Chair in Creative Writing. Free and open to the public.
